Exploration to determine my project direction

To help with defining my project I have been researching artists/art movements that fuel my interests and use similar techniques as myself. I have been reviewing my past interests in artists such as Anselm Kiefer but also looking at particular techniques that I want to hone in on.

I have found the beginning of my project to be a shaky start as I could not pin point what particular area I wanted to focus on as I am a mix media artist. But I know the themes I want to work with so it's just a case of exploring different ways I can express them and translate them into art form - with the help of research and development processes that I plan to do over the weekend.

The combination of mediums is something I am interested in doing - creating expressive/semi-narrative pieces that portray themes of unconscious expression, trauma and the human condition.
Some artist I looked at:

Jacqueline Humphries

Andro Wekua

This piece above I find really interesting because it is made up of separate pieces that form a larger one - this is a technique I could explore, working with different pieces that ultimately make up a larger piece. I find this interesting both aesthetically as well as conceptually. Looking at themes of the human condition and the separation of unique unconscious thought all combining together to form a "bigger picture" - strangely enough this relates to my own pagan beliefs, the perspective of being part of something greater than oneself and how all things (including thoughts/experiences) are linked - nothing is completely individual but universal in many ways.
Aesthetically, this could create an atmospheric piece that would connect with the audience - even consider projection of some sort on large scale pieces.
