So...plan.

Look more at different ideas of layering with acetate/imagery - BOOK
Sketch out more what I want to portray - combine and mix ideas together.
Stress less about the idea of framing...it's not really what I want in my installation really.
Spend a day taking more photographs/making notes/working on written art to be included or used as additional context.
Work on installation idea on Friday - using fishing wire and OHP back projecting.
Consider how I can use some elements of front projection in my work - in a way that won't distract the audience or shatter the immersive "world" I aim to create.

Other examples of projection art

Installation projection

This piece I found on the above website. It shows projection art - images being projected in a public space where the audience can interact with it. The front project works as the audience can almost "touch" the image and have it projected on their skin.

...is this a concept I want in my work???

...Or is it just the easier option? xD

I need to figure out what will best express what I want and that will create the immersive/narrative style installation that I want to present and interact with the audience.

Projection as a fluid medium

Davis Ayer (Artist)

This artist uses projection on the body to make beautifully distorted versions of the human form - working with the idea of front projection almost as if it is a painting medium on the skin.

This reminds me of some of my practice - projecting images onto the skin. This is an idea I can still explore except looking more at words/patterning and actual "scenes" from my created worlds rather than just looking at interesting colours and images as this artist seems to. The work is too much like fashion/art photography for me. I am interested in making figures/faces appear genderless when I use them so it is something I can explore as additional content for my installation - as I mentioned previously in my sketchbook, I want to create my installation with fragmented aspects as I looked at when beginning my project. I am considering using elements of straight forward photography in my final piece for the Degree Show - it is something that would create an interesting effect, however I do not want the pieces too "distract" too much from each other as it is important for the environment to be immersive and engaging to the audience. I want the work to create a sensory experience for the audience, to effect them in some way - I have achieved some of this from the feedback I got from my previous installations...people commented that the work was sinister and the eyes of my Face piece engaged with them on a dramatic level. YES.

Finished piece (end of term installation)

This is my end of term piece (before Xmas). I have been working on this all week - exploring different ways the images can be displayed and how different pieces interact with each other to create different effects and created "scenes."

I have used the Face piece to direct the gaze of the viewer, almost to will the audience to look upon the other images - explore the space and images within. I blurred the images on the right to create a more surreal/dream-like effect, less clarity to the piece as it was clear it was trees, to distort the view for the audience and distract the eyes' focus. The back image I wanted to be very clear to create the idea of another space within the space itself - the window and debris surrounding it works to formulate the immersive effect. I wanted to work with two ideas - working with creating an immersive and engaging environment to draw the audience into my work...and the other is to express the way I see the world through imagery (and possibly written art) also exploring the idea of phenomenology - how consciousness is linked to experience - so further exploring how the mind (my own) processes the world around me which I express through image/projection.

Problems I encountered -
Mainly the forward projecting of the image, as when the viewer walks into the space they cross over the light thrown from the OHPs which damages the images and this ruins the idea of an immersive environment effect.  I want to work with back projection to see if this issue can be solved.
However in some instances, the forward projection is interesting when the audience walk through the light/image as it transfers some of the images qualities onto the bodies of the audience. Although breaking up the immersive effect in a sense it also makes the audience also become a part of the piece more as they are almost "covered" in aspects of the imagery. It is something I am going to look into and decide upon.

The arrangement of imagery was complex as it was difficult to arrange them on the OHPs as the layering sometimes was too distorted to show both images on the walls - I had to use light images together or distorted imagery. I also worked with an idea of using card to break up lighted areas - giving the piece almost a collage effect.

Exploring with ideas

Ideas while working on installation >>>

- Using materials to draw attention/optimise the themes of imagery
-  Images that suggest "seeing into" and others suggesting "viewing" (?)
-  Work on ways to express emotions in imagery
- Creating an immersive environment with my images.

I am really excited to progress forward with my work!!

Installation work

I have recently been forming installations with my work - working with projection of imagery to create an immersive environment where the audience are drawn into the piece and react to the particular emotions and sensations I want to work to portray through my pieces.

My work has developed so much, my tutor even commented that I have really progressed throughout the term which was a real positive thing for me to hear. I have now relaxed more with my practice and don't feel the need to excessively search for a definition and specific concept at all.
As always, my work is personal to me - to things I see, imagine and how I perceive everything around me. I want to work with the imagery I have to create "scenes" or dreamscapes that the audience are drawn into. To me, it seems the most essential thing of my practice is to get the audience to react to my pieces - to be affected by the colours, detail and imagery shown in my work.
I want a final and finished product to be completed by the end of the week - using the imagery I already have. I want to create a piece I can work from. The installation work has really fuelled my passion and I want to pursue it further.

The Face piece will definitely be used because of the engaging quality it has with the audience - it has been commented that they are sinister/disturbing eyes, these lock eyes with the viewer and almost seem to will them to look upon what is being portrayed around the space. Like they are demanding the viewer look around (referring to my themes of trying to get the audience to see the world how I do). I want the audience to engage with images and the space - considering including other features such as items strewn around, material on the floor etc.
I experimented with using fabric on the walls - a basic idea but it draws the audience to certain sections of my work and to generally experiement with what materials I can use to empathise particular themes of the work e.g. loosely pinned sheets over the wall with Window piece - the ideal of things being damaged or coming apart.
