Artist - distorted photography

Artist: Nathalie Hervieux

I am interested in this artist's photography because of the use of surreal effects and distortion that makes the pieces so engaging - also the artist herself has included written works as content for her series which I am eager to do myself.

THere are many of her series that I am intrigued by - the main ones are ones that feature distortion with colour, layering and the notion of a narrative.

I want to work with my own pieces to bring the narrative further in - to immerse and engage with the audience through conceptual aspects that are shown through my pieces. This artist uses the figure a lot more than I do in my practice - however I find this useful to look at as I will continue to explore how figure/face/features can be engaging with the audience and work to fuel a narrative and develop a sense of intrigue in the audience - to make them want to explore more.

There is a well of desperation and of memory in her work - of human emotion and of turbulence but captured in a still moment. I am interested in expressing particular emotions through my projection pieces - to express concepts of my own personal world as well as emotional connections that will engage with the audience present in the installation - be it sinister, desperate, exciting, dramatic, melancholy, loving or confusing...anything to express and push further the themes of my practice.
